ABSTRACT

Data from the health profile of the province of Yogyakarta in 2010 the infant mortality rate is recorded as many as 346 babies or 17/1000 live births with a variety of reasons, one of which is caused by neonatal tetanus umbilical cord infection. From the preliminary study contained 8 postpartum mothers with parity over 2 times with infants aged 4-14 days (still in its treatment of the umbilical cord), obtained 57% (4 people) pregnant women who do not know how to clean cord care and sterile , and 75% (6 people) postpartum mothers do not know how good cord care (clean and sterile). Knowing the relationship of knowledge and attitudes about the treatment of postpartum mothers with a long cord release in infants in BPM Sri Romdati Gunung Kidul. This research is a descriptive analytical research with cross sectional design. Research sample of 34  postpartum mothers with  babies aged newborn. Techniques of data collection using questionnaires as a research instrument. Data analysis using chi square test statistic. Most mothers have sufficient knowledge of the 22 respondents (64,7%). Partum mothers who have a good attitude in caring for a newborn's cord as much as 21 respondents (61,8%). Infants with the release of the umbilical cord in normal times as many as 20 infants (58,8%). These results proved the statistics by using the chi square test p- values obtained value of 0,020 in both attitude and the attitude is not good at 0,048. At the level of error (α) 5% was obtained 0,05 (0,020 <0,05) and (0,048 <0,05). There is a relationship of knowledge and attitudes about the treatment of postpartum mothers with a long cord release in infants in BPM Sri Romdati Gunung Kidul.
